NEW VIDEO - Gabriel in Brook Vessons - Whalebone & Jean Atkin - Understories

'Gabriel in Brook Vessons' is taken from 'Understories' our collaboration with poet and writer Jean Atkin. Combining instrumental music and poetry, this track tells the story of Gabriel and Selina, a couple living in Brook Vessons. Brook Vessons was a 19th century lead miners' squatter village under the Stiperstones, which kept to the tradition of the one-night house.

One-night houses had to be constructed literally overnight, so that at dawn a fire could be lit in the hearth, and smoke rise from the chimney.
